Security Forces Killed In Action: A1C Elizabeth Jacobson

Killed In Action in Iraq

Airman Jacobson was killed on a convoy near Camp Bucca, Iraq, on Sept. 28, 2005 when her vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device. She is the first female Airman killed in the line of duty supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Airman Jacobson had been in Iraq for just over three months. "A1C Jacobson was a great troop...always sought the hardest challenges and never gave up. She worked very hard to get on the convoy section and had only been working it for a couple of weeks when the incident occurred. She was a bright and intelligent young lady who cared deeply for her country and the military."

Members of the 386th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron recently completed work updating and retouching Jacobson Barrier, a memorial dedicated to Airman 1st Class Elizabeth Jacobson.

Members of the 386th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron salute the display they set up during a remembrance ceremony for Airman 1st Class Elizabeth Jacobson.

A final memorial tribute to Airman 1st Class Elizabeth Jacobson sits at the base chapel Oct 6. The helmet and identification tags represent the fallen servicemember, the combat boots signify the final march of the last battle and the inverted rifle with a bayonet symbolize a time for prayer and a break in the action to pay tribute to a fallen comrade.

This display was built by members of the 386th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron for a remembrance ceremony to honor veterans, including Airman 1st Class Elizabeth Jacobson.

Chief Master Sgt. Thom Narofsky and Col. Paul Curlett dedicate a road as Jacobson Avenue at a deployed location in Southwest Asia Nov. 10. The street dedication was part of a memorial ceremony for all veterans, including Airman 1st Class Elizabeth Jacobson.
